Thread: Electrified rear window defrost on early 911 with vertical lines

Dr. B. Johnsons was mistaken. The vertical heated rear window was in tinted glass on my old car pictured above. It says "tinted glass all around" and " Electrically heated rear window" on the COA pictured and I can vouch that it was tinted and vertical heated.
One of the problems with that car is it was so heavily optioned (blue leather, etc.) and with dealer installed options (Cibie Hood Lights, etc.) that it was common to have the car dismissed as a bastardized none original car. I believe the new owner removed some of the options to make it look "show room stock" which of course it never was.

I stand corrected; I misread the article covering this!

There was a RSR style black pull knob under the dash to activate it if I remember correctly.
So they did come on a 1967 911 coupe for sure, although I have never seen another one.
    Fritz is correct (of course!).
His car was exceptional with all those options and the blue interior, I am proud that we did that restoration.
The car is still with the same collector in The Netherlands who I sold it to, wish I could buy it back.....
One of my personal cars is the Sea Green 1968 911L Targa, now in restoration (though on the back burner) and that car also has the vertical heating wires embedded in the glass, this car was one of the first specially ordered ones with a hard glass rear window. Unfortunately the glass window is packed and in storage at this moment so I cannot show a picture here.

I just came across this thread. I recently purchased a 1968 911 Targa and it has the hard window with vertical defrost. If still interested in topic I can post some pics.

Attached a couple pics. The quality isn't great but it was tough to get the lines to show up.

Well, I do have one for a coupe that is clear ? as far as I can recollect....It`s wrapped - up, so..............I`m not sure I could photograph it as the wires are ultra fine & about eighty or so in a coupe glass, I keep loosing count?..... it could possibly be tinted ?, as it is probably an up - grade option..... cliff

I think you did pretty good with your iPhone! Cool to see how the lines are just disappearing.

Thanks Schiefer. Any idea how many of these windows were produced?
