Love the old Earl Scheib commercials. Brings back so many memories. About a year ago I found a 14ft x 5ft original Earl Scheib sign for sale in Virginia. I had it trucked down to Texas and it's proudly mounted in my shop. Brings a smile to everyone's face and I've heard a wide and hilarious assortment of Earl Scheib impressions thanks to that sign.
That car you linked to on Pelican has been for sale since 2007 ! Wonder why it hasn't sold?

They painted a '56 Chevy hot rod of mine back in the day in SoCal. As I recall, it took two days and cost $29.95. Then on to Tijuana for the interior which they did overnight (a night to remember).
That was a great car. Fast - and the backseat was really roomy.

Back in the $39.95/$59.95 Scheib era the weird thing was that the paint had two distinctive characteristics...
- It faded extremely fast (noticeably within a couple of years, or months if it was left in the sun)
- BUT the paint (the Diamond Gloss finish) was EXTREMLY hard... so much, that if you 'cut it' (color sanded, and rubbed it out) fast enough (within 2 days) the paint itself looked pretty damn good. Of course if you didn't slip the 'shooter' and extra $20 the application still sucked.
My, my .... was this just yesterday? ...........
NO IT WASN'T CHUCK !!!!!!!!!!!...

Back in the late 90s, I happened upon a Carelli 928 convertible. It had been given the then-popular "white out" treatment: with everything except the wiper blades and tires painted metallic pearl. It's not as if I could have waited to find another, since only a handful were ever made. So I ended up replacing all the seals and having the paint stripped.
Cannot locate the photo at the moment, but it was horrific looking. I was able to resurrect it, but it cost a lot of money.
On the yellow car, one hopes the trim wasn't (as Scheib used to call it) "scuffed" for paint adhesion.
