Thread: 2.4S engine rebuild & mods - keeping the character

  1. #11
A 2.4S the long way is my personal favorite.

    2.2S pistons with a 2.4 crank.

It's a near perfect blend of HP, torque, drivability, revyness (I just made that word up but it fits), and fun factor for an early 911.

If I could only have one, THAT would be the one.

I do not understand this statement. Can you define 'only one' please?

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.

Hi James, followed the Classic Le Mans thread on DDK and was sorry to hear about the car, didn't realise it was as serious as this.
Some great advice here and best of luck with it all.
    cheers, Mike

thanks Mike .... as it turns out , things might not be too serious afterall, but I am wanting to rebuild my motor at some point in the not too distant future anyway as I would like a bit more performance ...

+1 for 2.2S p and c. It's what's under my hood (deck lid actually). There is nothing like high compression and great throttle response.

I converted my 2.4S to 2.7 spec 25 years ago and still think that it is the perfect engine. I don't regard the 2.4 as a peaky motor, for that the 2.2 was much more dependent on revs to produce power, only coming on song at 4500rpms. The 2.4 had a much flatter response curve. In retrospect the only change I would make to my 2.7 would be to use pistons giving 9.5 comp instead of 8.5. Just a bit crisper without risking detonation.
