Thread: Type 901/xx Engine Build #'s

  1. #81
Dave, can you please take a look to this thread?
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...688#post209688.
(Uncovered! short-lived third model: the 1967 911 deluxe").
I've sent there some pictures of my 66-67 911 with a very strange engine; you already have it in your list. The weird question is it has Solex carburettors and it looks like original. 901/5, 909445, build number 5703.
    (pages 4 to 5).
    Thank you.
    Jose.

I have been following that thread closely. I can say that the build # and the others fall in line properly, so that engine should have Weber's. I can think of two reasonable possibilities: first, the engine was rebuilt at some point usisng parts from an earlier engine; second, the engine was specially ordered from the factory with the Solex's. The WHY is just speculation. A tear-down would help with date codes on the castings and would tell you exactly what parts are in there. My bet would be on a rebuild since 40 years is a very long time. I'd think that a rebuild even 20 years old would look original.

    Thanks Dave.
I'll tell you something but I'm afraid it will be in a couple of years.

Wow, thanks guys. A two week drought and then 3 new ones overnight. If you can, please let me know the VIN of the car, and also the case pairing # (if the shroud is off of the engine) and the casting date on the case.

Today I found 3 more and added them. Question: is there any way to get info on European engines? Most of my data is from the English speaking countries as expected. However I need a better source for Euro engines like the 1968 911T 901/03 208xxxx series on which I have very little data. I think I need some well connected people in Europe to assist me in this research. Does anyone have serial # series data for the 901/2x engines?

    Hello davep,

Here are the numbers on my '66, though I do not know for sure if the engine is original to the car; I was told it was. Anyway, here are the numbers:

    Engine #: 902441
    Build #: 901/01 2341

    Thanks,
