    Preferred Floor Mats

From what I can tell, it looks like there are essentially two options for floor mats for our Early cars; (1) Coco Mats from cocomats.com and (2) Lloyds Mats, available from numerous online retailers.

My application is for a '73S in very nice condition that travels only 2,000 or so dry miles a year, which basically means durability is not the issue rather which solution is going to look best in the car.

    Which do you guys prefer?

My interior is black leather and of course I have the German Velour (dark grey) carpet. Those of you who may have Lloyd's mats, is 'Black' or 'Graphite' the better color? I think I would probably prefer the softer "carpet" of a Lloyds mat over a coco or sisal but interested in feedback from others.

One last question. When you enter your car in a 'show' or concours event, should you remove the floor mats since they are an aftermarket accessory or is this even an issue?

    floor mats

Auto's International made me a set of floor mats for my 73S that are exact duplicates of factory supplied, optional floor mats. The driver side is black carpet with a ribbed rubber front where your feet are. I have the original mats from my car and these replacements look really good. Cost was $215 +/- for the set. Auto's told me to put my originals in the garage and use em' at shows.

At a concours event, you should remove the mats prior. The mats will trap dirt, and truly it's just one more level of cleaning. You can completely forget coco mats at the concours level....impossible to keep the rugs underneath them clean. This is only for a judged event... for "show", non judged, leave all the goodies in. Personally I like the coco-mats, I bought some NOS originals years ago, and I think they look great (and they were a dealer option).

I've had both in my '73, and definitely prefer the cocomats. The Lloyd mats
were always moving on me (at least on the driver side) and constantly had to be repositioned.

Cocomats really do stay put, have a cool period look and hide dirt much better than the Lloyds. The only negative with cocomats is they are surprisingly heavy, but the benefits are worth the weight.

I have a pair of black front Lloyds mats, exc condition if you want to make me an offer.

Thanks for the feedback. I just ordered a set of mats from cocomats.com. Two reasons:

    • I've never heard a negative word about them, in fact quite the opposite
    • I have an older set of Lloyds mats in there now and just like JCR suggested, they move around and it seems like I am always repositioning them.

Your responses sealed the deal. Again, thanks.

    Sisals

The old style sisal mats are still available too - tighter weave, not as bulky and look period correct. Indestructible, I've got a pair almost 30 years old that still look good.
