Thread: Fuel Filter Woes

  1. #11
Darn, I was hoping the filter would show as well, but it's hidden in the shadows...RS and S car both came with this injection set-up. The fuel lines leading into and out of the fuel filter are the braid atop rubber type. The lines leading from Tom's injection pump here are the flexible RSR lines...factory lines are hard tubing...

I just finished a search on Pelican...here's a link to a great thread there on this topic...with pics of the filter, it's plumbing, etc. Suggest all of it is read, it gets interesting when the plumbing gets entered into...

    Thanks for the link!!!

    Paul,
Reading through all the similar experiences, I'm feeling like a freshman here... Nice to know that there is a community here that can share this information.

I'm actually looking forward to chasing this down now. I just hope it's tat cut and dried. But now that I think of it, the last time I drove this car, the tank was low and I used a splash from the fuel jug to make certain I'd get to the filling station. Hmmmmm. This all seems to fit the pattern.

Thanks again everybody, I'll let you know what I find.

Do that Jol...on the link I gave? Take Grady Clay's word as gospel...He's retired from doing things with Porsches for a living, but we are all blessed with his contributions...

    What a Mess!!

OK, I've got my parts and am starting my troubleshooting. I was going to begin at the tank, but before I started that I compared my hose setup to the diagrams and photos on the Pelican site that Paul pointed me to.

    Yikes!

I though that you guys would get a kick out of seeing what I found. Doesn't mean that this is the problem as there still would be pressure to the MFI pump (obviously, I 've been driving the car) but what a mess!

How it should be...a diagram lifted from the Pelican thread...Grady posted this one as the "corrected factory diagram"...and judging from the cold start location, I believe it to be for the 2.4 models...

    Update.

    Thanks Paul,
I'd gotten a diagram that was "corrected" but yours is a little easier to see.

I compared the incorrect chartruse car's setup to my white one, and the white car is like the diagram.

I pulled the tank sensor an looked into the tank. Niether the pickup or return tubes have a "sock" on them. Bummer dude! The worst thing is that I think that the way this was set up meant that unfilterred fuel was going to the MFI pump, and we know how finicky those pumps and injectors can be.

Sometimes people put an inline filter after the tank, so I've now got the car in the air, and will pull the cover off in the morning and take a look behind the tank where the flexible hose goes to the tunnel tubing to see if this was done. Then I'll test the flow from the pump at the engine compartment end. I guess if there isn't a fuel filter underneath I will put one down there, as it will be a lot easier than putting one into the tank.

I hope this goes quick, I've still got to get the 914 ready for the PCA race.
