Hello all,
I have been brought here by the recommendation of the National Porsche Club of America office who recommended I seek help for my endeavor here.
My late father, Vlado Lenoch, led an incredible life: An MIT graduate in aeronautical engineering, a Boeing aerodynamicist, certified aircraft mechanic, flight engineer, airshow performer, warbird-, corporate- and airline pilot, he was a pilot's pilot as I've been told. In 2017, however, his time on this Earth would come to a tragic end. Serving as an ever-willing steward to warbird aviation, he would take a passenger on a ride in a P-51 Mustang that would be unfortunately their last. We'll never truly know why or how this fateful flight ended the way it did, but there is one thing we do know for certain: that my father had owned what I believe to be a late-1970s Porsche 911.
Unfortunately I am none-too-well-versed in pre-993 911 parlance and I was hoping to hear some insight on 1) what the experts here suspect this exact year and model to be (the badge indicates it is a 911S, but I hardly know if that can be taken at face value) and 2) how, if in any way, I may be able to somehow re-acquire this vehicle.
I have made this same post on Rennlist and Reddit (where contributors have mentioned the vehicle in question is likely either a 1976 or a 1977). In addition, I have searched on VINWiki, contacted the Chicago Region PCA, the national PCA office as well as both the Illinois and Colorado DMVs, all of which have unfortunately been to no avail. The Illinois (where my father lived the majority of his life) DMV has no records of the vehicle in question (since as I understand, they scrub their records after some period of time [I realize the vehicle in the photo has Colorado plates and I learned that Colorado clears their records as well]). I have also been told that vehicles of a certain vintage (pre-1981 or something of that ilk) have extremely difficult-to-trace VINs (I'm guessing due to that period of time predating any form of digital records).
I understand an undertaking of this magnitude cannot be understated as this vehicle was purchased and sold before I was born, my widowed mother has no records of said vehicle (and we therefore does not have the corresponding VIN available) and nor do we have any knowledge of what company might have insured the vehicle as much of his family and close friends have long since passed away now.
I am prepared to wait years and cough up a sizeable sum should the exact vehicle in mind be able to be located.
I'll include the few photos I have available and allow me to extend a thank you to anyone who is kind enough to contribute their time and energy to the cause, big or small. I sincerely appreciate anything and everything from the bottom of my heart.
