I actually have the manuals so I'll go dig it out. But thanks for pointing it out because I never would have known there was a spec.

Another question I have is the original paint treatment on the area behind the grill- like on the front of the battery box. Is that supposed to be brushed on flat or satin black? Right now mine is body color.

Projects continue. Nothing major, just small things where I notice that something needs cleaning or a refresh. Usually these are classic "as long as I'm in there" tasks that start as maybe a 2 or 3 hour task and then balloon to 10. But that's half the fun!

Recently I tackled the left side of the engine bay; I cleaned up and redid the fuel filter console and fuel lines, the electrical panel, and the wiring harness. Came out really well. Other than not running the "snorkel", the engine bay is pretty much where I want it, although an Appbiz sound pad is definitely in my future.

One scary thing- after I reinstalled everything I turned on the fuel pump and checked for leaks. Everything tight and dry in the engine bay. Then I checked the lines going to the fuel pump. I hadn't changed those, and hadn't even touched them. I see a puddle on the floor and find that the return T-hose was leaking badly. It must have been a developing leak and my monkeying around pushed it over the edge. Moral of story- check your fuel lines!

At some point I'm going to add the "snorkel" back on to get back to the original configuration. I recently bought the May 1973 issue of English car magazine Auto Car. In that issue they did a long-term (2,500 mile) test of the RS. Here's the photo of the engine from the article. I chuckled when I saw that they had removed the connecting tube from the snorkel. Even when these cars were new people were tossing that thing!

Just saw your thread bump. I don't need much arm twisting to post about my car, but it's probably better that I didn't notice until now since a fair amount has happened in the last 7 months.

Since then I followed through on my threats in previous posts to return the car to its as-delivered condition. That involved going back to the RSL bumper setup with the S deco, and removing the Carrera side script. I pulled off a one-man Three Stooges bit trying to turn my garage into a temporary paint booth for the bumper bits, but overall I'm pleased (actually surprised) with how it turned out. The pre-heat snorkel is back in the engine bay, and I did a bunch of other refurbs "while I was in there".

And yes, I'm still driving it. It was "hiding in plain sight" at RRV in the 911 parking corral. I used to get the "that isn't real, is it" question regularly, but the removal of the Carrera script really seems to give it more of a sleeper status. I love it! Other than that it's still a regular guest at Jim's monthly coffee and donut fest at EASY, and I take it out for spirited drives at least once a month. This March will be the 32nd anniversary. Wow.
