I've been looking for the correct side bracket to mount the short trumpet horn for about 5 years. Recently I found that S Registry member Clyde Bowyer was having brackets manufactured to the factory specs. Thank you Clyde! They are perfect!

I finally got around to installing them, and this turned into one of those classic "as long as I'm in there" projects. Not that I'm complaining- these are for me some of my most rewarding times with the car. I always learn something new and I never fail to find some other things that should be fixed or refreshed.

So I ended up pulling off both fenders, redoing the paint in the wheel wells, and freshening the trombone cooler and lines.

I've seen and heard of a number of different horn configurations, but I've decided that this one is "correct". At least for me!

Thanksgiving was absolutely beautiful in San Francisco this year. And the city seems to empty out, making it a great time to take the car out and snap some photos with the Golden Gate Bridge as background.

    Jeff- the car looks great!

How did the fender removal go? The frontal area looks tremendous. Oh no another project suggestion!

Hi Jeff, the fender removal was surprisingly easy. I recommend having two pairs of hands when you lift the fender away, or at least put a blanket over the door if you do it yourself. The driver's side is a little fiddly with the tube guide for the gas flap cable, and I dinged the door a bit as I was pulling that fender off. Other than that it was pretty straightforward. Reinstallation was easy although the alignment and gaps aren't perfect; that will take some iterations to get right. I'm planning a full repaint at some point so I'm not too worried about getting it perfect right now.

    That's good to hear.

Curious, did you torque the fender nuts? years ago I leaned of this and remarkably made a difference in the feeling of the front-end.

Did not. I knew there was an order to follow for reinstallation (which I admit I did not do), but I didn't know about the torque spec. Is the torque the same for all of them or does it vary by location?

Jeff, They are all torqued the same value. I saw the infamous chart posted here describing the torque sequence a few months ago. I thought I had carefully saved it. I don't know the torque value. Again, the difference in my 65 was noticeable.

Great thread. Reminds me that I'm still at enthusiast level 101 with a vertical learning curve.
