    Kneepad Vin question

Was the Vin number behind the kneepad stamped first then painted at the factory? Or was the stamping done after paint? My dash vin does not have paint within the vin impressions.Thanks.

My '67S, Oct. '66 production, painted then stamped...clearly the stamps had penetrated the paint down to raw metal. There's no way they would have been able to mask the stamping and then paint. The site isn't letting me post a photo this AM.
