WTB: '65 901 Hella outer headlamp glass lens

    Greetings all,

I'm after 1 x Hella outer glass lens for a '65 901, the lens is marked:

    SB49 SB20 SB21

    HELLA

    6 - 60370 - 3

Not sure if there is a variance between Euro lamps and US ones on a '65.

    Used/presentable condition is fine.

    Many thanks

    Stew.

If you dont mind used, ebay and the samba arent bad resources.. i bought a pair (two!!) on the samba for $25 shipped a few weeks ago. If you are careful and know what markings to look for (as long as the pictures arent from a mile a way that is), you can find them.

just ask them to pack it really well...

you need to look carefully at the marking on them. i presume you want to match one on the other side?
If you currently have a clear lens there is no issue about suitability. If you have a fluted lens there may be as it may be "handed" however from the photos i have of your car they look clear.

I think you have the numbers a bit wrong
    they should be SB19 SB20 SB21

There are original ones and later ones, and then repros. the original ones went from 1963 till about 83 and from the number 6-60370-3 i think yours is very early. It also should have "oben" engraved into the top and a very naive HELLA logo

I have 4 here at home - 2 for some "stealth" 200w lights with double H1 Carello internals - and two spares that were the most sandblasted of the 4 i bought.

I agree with Harry, to get a good match you need to buy used and may have to buy a few to get a close match or really good one.

you need to be careful on the details - the later repros have no numbers and the later series have a different HELLA logo (double lines all around including the hella letters) and have "top" engraved at the top instead of oben

to give an indication the ones i have with oben and a simple logo are
    16-60370-3
    21-60370-03
    28-60370-03
    and the later one 032-60370-03

I understand that the first number (6 in your case) is a "mold number" which is not a date number but obviously related - the larger the number the more recent but i don't have the scale. someone more knowledgeable than me on this subject may be able to help

you will note that before mold 21 the last numbers appear to change to 03 from 3. I have no idea why but in matching the other one you may like to get a 3 rather than 03

my 16-60370-3 is sandblasted a little too much to work well at night and obviously too much for a show car - however if you cant find a very early one i would be happy to swap it with another one.

    regards

    hugh
