I'm confused, Dave and Peter's pics of plates on 69 model cars that don't have a B after the 911T or 911S yet Maurizio's E has. Aase show a 911E plate similar to the other 69 plates shown here but they also have a plate stamped 911E-B. Given that 69 was the first year for an E model, which is the right plate for a 69E? Was the plate different in different markets?

Good question... Good question... could be due to the body karmann or Porsche?
Bump, any clues?

It is the only one I have record of with an extra code. It is not manufacturer based. Are there any detail differences in the MFI that could be market related?

Also these that are not Karmann:
Going back to the original question, the fourth line was probably added due to new regulations coming in to effect for calendar year 1971. Thus, probably introduced January 1, 1971.

Hi,
I suspect an exact date will be hard to state. I have loads of vin plates pics to check through but for now I have on file a 4 line plate on a car made Oct 1970. European delivered.

It's a mistery... I have looked for in a lot of photos of the MY 1969 that I have and I have found the two types of vin plates both on the Karmanns and on the Porsches, I don't understand really...

I've always considered the glass to be half full...that is until I reached middle age and realized that it is actually half empty.
Just to keep the confusion going… mine has the -B reference and is prior to the S shown above in production sequence by some 60 cars… still a mystery I guess.
