    The 914-6 Takes Shape

Lately it seems that the "Off Topic" section is becoming the go-to place for alternative Porsche discussion; I figure my 914-6 project update would fit in nicely next to the 964 thread.

Here's where I'm at so far...

I bought the car as a pile of parts and after a lot of sorting it seems I have about 75% of a 1970 914-6. It's a solid car that was repainted about 15 years ago in single-stage Glassurit in the original color, Light Ivory.

The paint is hard as stone and in VERY good shape for its age. After it was painted it was never put back together, and while the top side stood up fairly well the bottom did not. So I had my favorite body man - John Esposito - take care of the underside. He welded up some holes for an aftermarket sway bar and re-shutzed and seam sealed the fender wells and under the back trunk. Afterwards a fresh coat of Light Ivory was applied and I started putting everything back together.

So far I've installed the suspension; SC front Bilstein struts/inserts, original steering rack, Turbo tie rods, 912E front sway bar and 19mm torsion bars in front with Bilstein shocks and stock coil springs in the rear. The car has all new bushings and I'm hoping that it will be a plush cruiser when the rubber hits the road.

I've also started putting the engine together; feel free to speculate.

Anyway, this is just the first installment ... as the project progresses I plan to update here as well as on our TLG Auto website. Here're a few photos of what I have so far.
