    My 72 911T, Detailing, Restoration & Preservation

I purchased this car a few months back on this forum. Since then, I'vd had car serviced at PMCI in NM and its now in FL for detailing, restorarion of minor parts and trim pices as well as preservation of original items on car. Previous owner had done lots of work, now I'm doing the "little details".

You know it!! Must be the heat in FL, LOL!!
Of course he did something to the Targa bar. He's got some sort of polish for it. I need to post pictures of front trunk, looks awesome.
He's putting car on lift today to start cleaning suspension and undercarriage.

Looks great! Might be more accurate to state "...now I'm having the little details done...". Watch the pro and learn and then DIY - it's very satisfiying. One of the parts I like best is developing "secret recipes".

Yes, I am having them done. It's an issue of time and ability, of which I have very little at the moment. I am also partial to letting professionals do their thing and I will enjoy their work. I hope to someday have the time and some knowledge to this this stuff or some of the type of work you've done.

I didn't know squat about this stuff a few years ago. As you say, time is the biggie. A story that has inspired me for years comes from (I think) "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance":

Walking down a neighborhood street our friend stops to watch an old guy work on a lawnmower. He has it completely dissembled and pieces lie all over the driveway. Our friend is just amazed that anyone can do that and says so, that he could never do it. The old guy looks at him and says, "You don't take the time".

I have probably gotten carried away following this advice - I once built a pole barn by myself with no experience and plans only in my head. Still standing (I think).

    Cheers,

You probably had the talent, I know I've tried but the talent is not there. I'll just do other things well, including writing the check.

There is nothing like an early Targa for detailing, with all that chrome plated brass trim. It's a real feast for the eyes: the last of the Baroque open Porsches, the rightful heir of the 356 cabriolet, and progenitor of so many great 911s.

You're inspiring me to get to work on mine!

Hope you don't mind the critique, but you need different sun visors.... sorry I don't have any good targa ones right now.
