John Starkey makes reference to some 2.7 litre 911ST's that were produced, does anyone have some engine specs and associated history/photographs of the machines in question?
Thx

First time I've ever heard of a 2.7 ST engine ...

At long last I've got hold of John's new edition of 'From R to GT2' so I can finally refer to his own words
....In 1972, Porsche built some thirty one 2.5 STs, about twenty receiving factory built 2.5 litre engines, whilst at least two cars 911 230 1623 and 0863 received 2.7 litre 'twin plug' engines.

Interesting
Which one of you two guys has the correct chassis number for the first car?

Hi Raj
i am surprised at the engine number quoted for 911 230 0863 (6630022)
I thought that was in RS prototype RS 911 360 0012 built in April 1972 and still with the car
see fax below
i cant see the other engine on any RS though and there are about 3 or 4 engines in the 20 to 30 range that don't appear or RS's in the book

i had not either except for with reference to this car
maybe it refers to the original 2.7S project which this car was a part of?
see the similar reference in this letter........they seem to suggest that

Wins at the Daytona 6 and Sebring 12 Hour race's were backed up by others at the Nurburgring 1000km and Targa Florio, a special 2.7-litre ST also securing victory at the Zeltweg 1000km.

Hi Raj
no I don't think that I have the rest of that correspondence
as for the number 911.744 my rudimentary German translation (ie Google) suggests that this is the internal model number for the RS as the word "modellbezeichnung" translates as "Model name"
i could not find any reference to the number elsewhere but i did not go back to re read the RS book (every time i read it i find something new)

Raj,
Please forgive my ignorance, but are you suggesting that the two 'elusive' 2.7ST's started out as modified 911S's with 2.7 RS mule engines that were subsequently replaced with 2.5 litre twin plugs?
Otherwise, I guess if the long stroke 2.5 was having problems with it's flywheel shearing off, then this problem would be compounded by a 2.7 'twin plug' - assuming such a thing ever existed?
Thx
Martin
