    Hi David

Is this the profile you are questioning? Interesting to compare with other cars in this thread. In addition to profile, there is it’s construction: for a first series car it should be aluminium frame; with evidence of the tie down during its time pre conversion whilst in base homolgation configuration. I’d be interested to see the shape of the metal underneath lid, near the latch.

I'll check it against the series 1 ducktail I have in my parts stash.

My bet is that it is unlikely to be a correct ducktail, if you can't get the slam panel right then what hope is there....also interesting there are no trunk or underside pics of the ducktail perhaps telling.

Great fitment of rear bumper to the rubber too...not!!!

… to David’s question does it look a bit more pointy and angular — if so why? Could just be the angle of photo ? Plenty examples in this thread to compare — one comparator can be seen on the preceding post from not too dissimilar angle — albeit its photo is from the other side of car.

There were around fifty examples (only 10 percent) among the first 500 series allocated as the RHD RS quota. Obviously there had originally been intent to only make 500 RS examples and the plan to build 500 more is literally breaking news in the attached news snippet. I think when I’ve tallied up the examples made with RHD there were actually less than 50 RHD RS made in that important first 500 — from memory it is 47 RHD if tallying up vin from starting after the reserved first 10. While 911 including RS was not built in strict ascending Vin sequence doing that tally is the easiest approximation using public domain information.

I have posted this press cutting before here but reposting as it is contemporary with the first 500 series launch in the major RHD market. So the snippet was written from the perspective of the British market at the time of the Earl’s Court london motor show. A show that ran more or less immediately after the Paris show where RS model has its worldwide launch. This is brochure cover form Earl’s Court October 72:

It appeared in the British motor show edition of a popular British weekly car magazine so tbe cutting should be read in that RHD context. Small subset of RS production granted— but one I have particular interest in so would hope they get restored authentically if / when needed

PS it is worth noting all the 51 RHD in that first quota are described as lightweight 911 RS coupes which they obviously were obviously being among the RS chassis specifically weighed counted for FiA homologation. These 50 are all homologation cars by definition. Primary purpose be the physics evidence of homologation quantity of 500 being buit ans certified as hitting the 900kg homolgation target. Only around a handful of that first 50 RHD lightweight coupes were converted to M471 Sport; no M471 Sportsin RHD configuration were built at all before calendar end 1972!

If anyone has any information on the gulf orange repaint car, 911 360 0388, owned by Philippe Aunay and most recently Josh Sadler coming up soon, I am all ears. PMs greatly appreciated. Couple old posts here on the listings, and I am looking for further details not listed.

I think 0388 was in the French RS magazine issue 15, sept 2002. License plate 911MP76, owner you mentioned.

That ducktail looks like the aftermarket version available years ago. Would be amazed if one of those was used on an actual RS as a part of a restoration.

One in Porsche museum. Opposite side obviously but similar not identical perspective

Caveat I wouldn’t normally use Porsche as definitive on authenticity but would hope the ducktail on their museum car is correct part . Think I snapped this on a visit to Stuttgart but can’t exactly recall

Here is the one I have hanging on the wall.

I believe it to be from a first series light yellow RS (despite it's current colour) full alloy frame and pull down strap blocks in place and of course broken latch area (which really seals the deal as original).

The area circled is the most significantly different area to the Aussie restored car in question but at least it matches, as best as I can tell, the one in the factory pic taken by Stephen
