Thread: 912 vs 911 hubs?

  1. #11

    More info

    Just got the chance to look at a hub with the part number ending in .04. It's from a SC. It's the same body width and bearing locations as the .03 part (1967-1968). The difference to prior hubs is the size of the bearing cap, increasing from a 58mm to a 71.5mm diameter. Notice it has a much beefier construction around the bearing housings and is about a half pound more in weight.

    Does anyone have a .03 hub they would like to trade for one of my .04 or .02 hubs?

    Damn, that's some nice work Bob. I nominate you to clear up any confusing parts issues.
    Thanks;

    My '73 S hubs are 47mm. More important is the clearance between the back of the wheel and caliper. My 7x15's (and 911 7x16 ) wheels have approx. 8mm clearance, the 7x16 944 wheels have approx. 20mm clearance. This is to the stock S caliper. So you would have to switch to the 944 7x16 or 8x16 to benefit from the 32mm hubs. My Targa has RS rear flares and used 9x16 w/275 Hoosiers rears & 8x16 w/245 Hoosier fronts for the track. On the street, 7x16 w/225 SO3's and 9x17 w/255's.

    Where are you finding the part number on the hub? All I can find is a casting number "911 341 605 4R". The casting dates on the hubs are 6/74 and 7/74, so I would think that is a 901 341 065 06 p/n used from 74-89. Wanted to be sure though. Thanks.

    Castings don't necessarily have part numbers cast into them. If you have a 911... casting number and a 74 casting date then they will be 1975 2.7 parts. The relevant part number is 911.341.065.06
