    door pocket project

the car is put away for the winter.its time for a over winter project!
i'd like to renovate my door pockets.the hinged ones are a little misshapen,
probably from water damage and time.aside from recovering them is there any resource on how to restore them "lovingly to better than new"
    just kidding.
but i'd like to make them presentable and don't want to spend $2000.
    any advice would be welcome.

    Hi Bob,

I think it's just a question of how much work you want to do. I am no expert on this (or anything else) but you need to (and I say this very hesitantly) get them 'moist' (not wet) and then clamp them so they will dry in the 'original' form.

You may want to cut and bend some metal pieces which can then be riveted inside to help maintain the form in the future. They will never be new again, but you can go a long way towards getting them useful again. The main problem is you have nothing to experiment with so be careful...

I have absolutely no advice regarding the trim. But I hope others do. I will say that it is very easy to screw up the trim ask me how I know.

While they are off the car, you can take the opportunity to replace the bungees, hinges, etc. with OEM that are (at least over here) available from dealers.

That's a start at least, I look forward to what the experts have to say!

Someone did exactly what Tim described, and posted a great thread on Pelican with pictures. Found it! From our very own Zeke:

Bricks As always, Zeke has some great and simple ideas... but the best ideas are the simplest aren't they.
