Thread: 1989 3.2 into 1969 911S??

Steve - what about using the 901. This will be a street car only and I am not abusive on the gears. As this car is a true S I am trying not to change everything. In fact even changing the oil cooler bothers me a bit unless I can do it in a reversible manner.

    1969 911S - slightly bastardized

By the way, what has Porsche been doing for the last 30 years?

I would not use any 3.2 with the 901.

Although you mentioned that you are kind to transmissions, I have to guess that you plan on stepping on the throttle of a 3.2-powered '69 911 once in a while (otherwise why do it, yes?), and the 901 is simply overstressed with that amount of torque.

I would use a later 915 with close ratio gears (2nd thru 5th) and LSD. That makes a car like this VERY quick,.....

O.K. Steve - that being the case what year 915 should I be looking for? Do I need to also change all of the shift mechanism parts to do this? Will the speedo and tach work with a 915?

If I was doing this, I would use an SC or Carrera 915, shifter, and shift shaft.

You will need to run a pair of wires into the tunnel for the electronic speedo that you must use. I send the speedo to North Hollywood Speedo so they can put the early face & needle on that thing.

Tach compatibilty has more to do with the engine management in use. If you use the Motronic on the 3.2, I'd use a Carrera tach and have that fitted with the early face and needle if you want things to appear original.
