Thread: What does the S in 911S mean?

  1. #11
But I thought RS was "Rennsport"?...thus, S = sport. I'd love to be pointed to a reference.

Patrick Paternie (porsche 911) and Randy Leffingwell (Porsche 911 Buyer's guide) both call it Super. I'm sure there are references somewhere for Sport as well....

I don't feel like digging deeper right now, but I will.

    Super or Sport, still quick!

    This was my favorite...

On the i-club forums, however, RS stands for "discussed ad naseum."

    Smile Sport Sport Sport Sport!!!!

Harvey Weidman says "Sport" ...that's good enough...he'll be glad to share his full knowedge on 356 and 911 nomenclature with anyone who calls.

In my heart it should be sport, but this is an excercise in what is documented. Who's to say the writers knew what was what, but, I'm still waiting to hear from a factory source. A real factory source from the day, like '67 or earlier.

    So-o-o, where's the hard copy?!
