Thread: Trailer

    Hauling to Ventura

I've towed a 22-foot travel trailer many, many miles, plus a fully-loaded double-axled horse trailer with a stock Tahoe with absolutely no problems at all.

I bought my enclosed aluminum trailer from these guys four years ago and have never regretted it. It weighs 2400 lbs. and tows behind my 2WD F-250 PSD like it wasn't even there. In fact, I got a speeding ticket on I-5 for going 80mph with it just past Buttonwillow (aircraft patrol).

Those ATC trailers look great, and plenty of options.

Get more truck than trialer. Truck size I'd say 3/4 ton and a good size engine minimum for an enclosed trailer. With an 89 Chevy dually with a 454 it got 7mpg on premium and went 55 max, slower up hills towing a 20 foot enclosed trailer. I did get a Ford PS and now I get 13mpg towing at 75mph and it hauls up hills. Dually wheels are more important for higher rear axle loads, like a 5th wheel. My tag along (class 3 bumper hitch) enclosed 20ft trailer has less than 700lbs of tounge wieght.
1/2 ton with small V8 you would be better off with a 16/18 foot tandam flat bed trailer.

I have a Carson trailer. Nice entry level 20 foot tag along about $4600. You could save $2000 and look for a used trailer but most I saw were really beat. 20 foot is a good size, more saleable to other car guys than any shorter trailer. Find one with an aero front end if possible.
