    901 trans ? on gears

Does someone know if I can take a 901 trans "V" 5th gear and invert it then put it in the location of 4th gear? Would this work to be the same as a"R" 4th gear? I'm building a short box for my 911s. Right now I have the parts to make a gear box with A-1st, F-2nd, KA 3rd (filped-ZD 5th), R-4th (fliped V), X-5th.

I don't see why this would not work. But remember that all gears are in pairs - one on the output shaft and one on the pinion shaft. They must remain together.

I ran a flipped 5th in the 3rd postition with no apparent problems. When I looked at the gear stacks and observe the backwards orientation of the flipped gear's teeth, it looked strange to me.

Now, you're gonna have 2 sets in there backwards. I guess it doesn't make any difference since mine and others worked fine. But you have to ask why they put them all together with the same tooth slant from the beginning.

Thank You for you info. If the 3rd and 4th are both fipped does it put extra strane on any of the bearing? So when the gears teeth are opposite the other 2 gears in side the box would it make more turbulence inside the box and cause problems?

I can't answer those questions. The 901 guru is John at Otto's in Venice, CA. I think if you need to buy a gear or something for your project, he would be generous with his advice. Listen to what John says.
