Yes, his is full of it.

This is for a leather wraped 914-4 wheel. It needs to have holes drilled, tapped and countersunk for the 911 turn cancel ring.

Is that true and if so, what's the difference in depth? Are all RS/RSR/914 wheels like that?

The 380mm wheel does seem to have a shallower dish. I haven't measured a difference in the angle of the spokes, but you can imagine that if they are the same angle, they would be shorter for the smaller diameter hoop. As a result, the dish ends up a little more shallow and your hands are closer to the dash.

Wow, amazing how an old old thread got restarted (there is TON of info on these wheels on this site). In any case, I don't believe the 380mm wheel is ANY shallower than a 400mm or even earlier 420mm. It is the small diameter that brings ones fingers closer to the dash. I will, in fact, measure the "depth" of a 380mm and old(er) wheels and report tomorrow. Thanks.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw beginner's post Allen. I love that all of the old threads are maintained and can be added to 5 years later .
Not that we need another lengthy dissection of 380mm wheel design, but since I've never had both a 400mm and a 380mm wheel in my possession at the same time I'll be interested in what you can say about the depth of both. This is just the kind of random info I need to clutter my brain with...

I've got both a 400 and a 380 mm wheel that I just measured (from the face of the hub where the part number is located, to the surface of the wheel rim closest to driver):

    400mm wheel.......3 1/8"

    380mm wheel.......2 1/8"

The factory raised hub measures 30mm or 1.18", which brings the 380mm wheel to approximately the same location as the 400 mm wheel with no raised hub.
    Cheers!

    I believe that's a 1970-72 914/6 leather wrapped wheel.
    Cheers!

Will this work in my 911? What will I need to do and is it one of the preferred wheels for getting close to the RS style wheel? Thanks
