New case bolts vs used ?

    Guys
For 71 Mag case …should I buy new case bolts ($$) vs reuse of originals.
Dont want to spend unnecessarily but if recommended…will do !
    Thanks

I will defer to the experts but FWIW, I’ve rebuilt 3 mag case (70-71) engines and I’ve reused the case through bolts on all 3. I did have Ollie’s machine the halves and machine back to standard but otherwise I just reused the bolts.

my engine builder I assume used my original thru bolts. there was no mention of getting new ones. We did use new head stud bolts and I think that is standard practice for my tech

Used is fine. They don’t generally go bad. Not much heat or stress like head or exhaust studs.

I have read they do reuse…but a post by recognized builder states that the later version uses fine threads vs the coarse threads of earlier … torque more accurate

Does anyone have a great set for reuse?

I always reuse the thru bolts, choosing not to re-plate them.

71Gold. Are you getting your case machined true? I highly recommend you do.

Yes Ollies did everything imaginable, we at the assembly stage..
Also question regarding setts I have seen ….most are black oxide but some are shiny metal and not refinished ?
    What’s experience with finish difference?
Are the fine thread from later cases and and fit 71 case ?

    Thanks again
