Thread: Photos of Custom Front Strut Braces

Photos of Custom Front Strut Braces

I'm currently welding in the RSR Rennline Front Shock Tower reinforcement. The included cross brace seems really flimsy. I was considering fabricating something tougher but am concerned that making something too strong might be a bad idea. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Any photos of custom front strut braces or early factory werks car setups would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

My metal guy made these for me. I didn’t specify any details. He does a lot of custom stuff for me and I leave it up to him to decide what’s right.

When I was a young boy, my brother told me that a racing engine should blow up as it crossed the finish line. Just yesterday a very well respected metal fabricator (Cobra, Porsche) told me that if a 917 chassis hadn't broken during a race, the engineers would be asking where they could make it lighter. That part is probably plenty strong enough to handle the lateral forces encountered at the top of the shock towers.

Sorry no photo, but.....consider that the parts being attached in these photos are being welded to a stamped steel inner fender. The 911r also received an additional formed and welded plate over this area to double this thickness in essence.

You also have to consider the use. I'm sure the 911R's were built to be driven 10/10ths and the shocks and torsion bars were probably pretty stiff.

I don’t see any inner fender reinforced area in this 911R.
