The box is actually bigger than the lid, which is longer on one side than the other. What are u planning to smuggle then I can probably tell u if it will fit or not. The long side of the opening is 18", the short side is 15", and 8" wide. 12' deep.

Thanks for the response Bob, much appreciated. I'm trying to put together my new AC14 Gmünd Road Kit in a way that it fits into the smugglers box. It fits almost perfectly in a 10"x10"x10" cardboard box. Do you think that will fit?
Thanks,
John

I am trying to use the “smugglers box” for one of its intended uses. My 911 E has factory installed air conditioning. The expansion valve doesn’t appear to be working. I’m trying to remove the whole evaporator assembly. I’ve undone the two brackets. One on the front and the other back at the bulkhead.
Undone the 2 1/2 blower hose. Undone the high pressure line and low pressure line as well.
Crawled under the car and made sure the condensate hose wasn’t holding it.
Well, I can pull it up about 3” but it just doesn’t want to wiggle out of the box.
What have I missed ?
Thanks for any suggestions,
The capaillary tube?

I watched a video on a 1974 911.
There is a return air plastic collar that is held in on the passenger floorboard. Once that was removed the evaporator came right out.
Thanks
