battery drained by charge control lamp?

i`m not the graetest when it comes to troubles with the electrical system of a 911.

a friend of mine has a 73,5 targa.
since a few days the charge control light goes on when the key is removed from the switch (us car with non locking switch) and drains the battery
the light goes off as it should once the engine is running.

    any ideas?

The diode in the wiring between handbrake light and alternator light might be defect.

It varies. Often the diode is on the back of the alternator. When it fails it will keep the charging light on with the key off.

This sounds like the culprit. I had the same issue and it went away when I swapped for a rebuilt alternator.
