Thread: Is this your missing transaxle?

  1. #11
The problem with your logic is that a 40+ year old transmission may have changed hands several times before it may or may not have been stolen. As such, without the serial number the correct owner may not know whether the transmission for his car is the one you have. If you were to post the serial number, putting the right owner with the transmission would be much easier and I bet the owner of the car this transmission is meant for would gladly pay you at or above a market price to reunite the two.

If the serial can be read, then it is possible for me to learn the VIN in which it was originally installed; there is a cost involved of course. Then the trick is to find the car and it's owner.

    I had a just-rebuilt 915/06 stolen in 2000, but I couldn't tell you the serial number...

It might be a VW axel used off road hence the missing # used in a Baja bug on some rocky off roading on slick rock in Moab UT. Especially if there is red dirt like in the drain plug recess. Could be famous though.
