Thread: Original suspension for 1973 911 S

    Original suspension for 1973 911 S

I am trying to work out what the original suspension would have been on my 73 911S Targa.
The front struts look like they are the original Boge struts. I think the may now have Bilstein inserts and the rear are Bilstein.
Does anyone know what the original set up was ?
    Can this be replicated.
I think the ride is just a little hard with the current set up.
    Thanks
    David

I'm going to guess that Boges were standard on '73 S. I've got Tourist Delivery option lists for both '71 and '72. In '71 Konis appeared to be standard on S, the option list notes the Koni shock upgrade (M402) was available on T & E only. For '72, while prices were different, M402 (Koni) and M474 (Bilstein) was available on all 3 models, T, E & S. So maybe the same was true for '73.

As per price list in 73 Konis were available as an option of T,E and S. No mention of Bilstein.

Boges were the only shock factory fitted on Targas from the factory.
Before you do anything...how old are your tires and what is your ride height.
    Front Tbar 18.8 rear 23.
What Bilsteins are fitted? Green HDs or yellow Sport?

My 73 S Coupe has green Bilsteins (Bottom roll pin) but then it is a sportomatic with factory A/C, so maybe that makes a difference.

+1 for RSTarga. Boges only on Targa’s.

The rears are green with the code F4-B46-0169- H0. The front are yellow but have a code written on them 1600P36 0112HO.
Intersted to know what this tells us.
My tyres were newly fitted during my ownership.

As was said in post #4, green are H.D. Bilstein, yellow are sport Bilstein.

Gled49 and RSTarga agree that Boge would have been fitted.
What is the nearest I can get to the original suspension.
Bilstein offer a number of options that mention Boge but I'm struggling to work out which if any are suitable.
    Any help gratefully accepted.
