The reason I asked is.....I`ve got a set of 4 6"x15" steelies that are all dated 11/71.........would these wheels have been an option in the 1972 cars?

Pretty sure that 15 X 6 steelies were the standard wheel in 72. That said, few 72s came with "standard" wheels. They were only offered in 72 and replaced with 15 X 6 Cookie Cutters in 73.

I imagine Porsche was still building parts to support sparing well after a particular part showed up in a model year. A LOT of 912's and 911Ts were built. Would think that the '69 912s might have had 6 in steelies.

Interesting thread. I like the 72 but actually prefer the 73 MY. The black trimmed indicator lenses, horn grilles, engine grill, letters and deck lid badge seems to be more coherent rather than the transition between chrome and black seen in MY72. Obviously I am biased since I own a 73

    Kind regards

If you want the original concept of a 911; the 2.4 is not it with its low compression pistons. It was an effort to satisfy the stricter emission standards in California and other States. We all know the racing people prefer high compression engines for maximum output.

Yes that's why the 2.2 piston change/upgrade to the 2.4 motor was and is so popular.
