    Maybe someone can explain how I was having trouble getting into first but the rest of the gears no problem. I thought if a clutch goes bad, you can't shift into any gears, only 5200 miles on the clutch.

    As Chuck says...nice!

    On the 901, I find (as do others) that indexing it into 2nd first and then pulling the shift lever into 1st will work perfectly every time. Eliminates the grind and the issues associated with getting it into 1st. Now it is just a habit when I am starting the car from a dead stop.

    I also know some of the old expert autocross magicians that used 901 transmissions well into the '90s and later had short-shift kits. I much prefer the OG shifter and don't mind the long throws. When I had the short-shift kit in, I still had to put it in 2nd (no clutch release) before pulling down into first to ensure it worked every time.

    And just in case, one of those magicians wrote a book on autocrossing an air cooled car, and there are a bunch of internet and panorama articles on Dwight Mitchell available on the internet with clues on how he set up his car. Admittedly it is a lwb not a swb, but maybe some of it resonates? Heck, maybe there is reference material on this site, I'd defer to Chuck. But both preferred the 901 transmission for reasons you're showing in the video (and both ran 2.7/2.8 engines off of it, with more than stock juice). Apologies if you're already aware...

    @Chuck Thanks!

    @Rick I haven't heard of Dwight, thanks for sending the info to me!!! It's a bummer I can't find any videos online of him driving.

    Usually clutch adjustment. Freeplay too much or pedal stop not high enough to allow full disengagement. How far from pedal stop does clutch start to engage.

    I can't recall at this point in the video, but my buddy said the same thing about the clutch adjustment. The clutch was getting softer and softer throughout the day, so I tightened it up when I got home. I tightened it too much because it started to slip when I would release the clutch pedal, I only moved the clutch arm 10mm. I sent my clutch and pressure plate to the company I purchased it from to test it, that way I can start a process of a elimination. They were thinking that the clutch was getting too hot and slipping.

    I am going to open up the trans and check the syncros as well.

    I did have an event today. It was the shortest/slowest course I have ever ran, so that was sorta a bummer. The first 2 turns were painful.
