kind-a-looks like a day or two after thanks giving...........
I guess sometimes you just scratch your head and wonder why........................
The last time this engine was worked on was sometime before 1978 in the Netherlands.
The only time that i know of it driven in the USA was when my brother-in-law took it to the Vallejo Porsche dealership for verification and that my brother-in-law drove it up a hill in El Cerrito and it barely ran.
Then parked abandoned in his mother's back yard for about 40 + years.
So when i took it apart. The first thing I saw was that the carburetors were totally molested (broken of pieces etc.) No way this could have run properly or even hardly at all by observation of the condition of the carbs.....
So as I started taking the engine apart, I encountered copious amounts of white silicon type of sealant.
The parts came apart relatively easily at first. And the parts looked new. As i got deeper into the motor I was still finding the white silicone sealant and parts that looked new. This continued all the way
down to the barrels being white silicone glued to the case. The pistons and barrels looked great.....
When I split the case the case was properly sealed and looked very good. It opened without much effort.
The rod bearings and crank bearings look remarkably well.
This engine.... if the carburetors and distributor were good would have ran fine....
Just how this happened to this poor little car is hard to fathom....
Sadly ... the heads, barrels and pistons had to be cut off. They were rusted/corroded beyond usable.
Fortunately, I already have new pistons and barrels and was planning to use different heads anyway.....
BUt I shake my head in wonderment of What Happened?????
Wow, his mother's back yard must have been Shasta Lake!
