This is the watch that says I'm an adult
Not sure exactly when Rolex came up on my radar, but I suppose it had something to do with some of the company I was keeping at the time. I distinctly remember one of my bosses having a solid gold 'President' --- + maybe the Accounting Manager had one, too? . . . big + bright + gaudy-as-hell . . .
. . . but they made an impression
This is Rolex's classic Submariner --- a late-90s-vintage ref 16610 . . . not gold, but stainless steel everything, oyster bracelet, crazy/over-done deployment clasp, 'cyclops' calendar window, self-winding (automatic), 'superlative chronometer' . . . but/still only accurate to ~2 minutes/month. And I don't wear it 'cause I'm watching the time
I wear it to watch the watch . . . can look at this thing, all day long
Bigger than it needs to be. And heavy + kinda clunky. And showy-as-sh!t . . . but I love the way it feels under my shirt cuff --- which is where it hides when I wear it out
The X gave this one to me for Christmas, circa 2000 --- and this was even my Every Day for a few years . . . then? . . .
. . . things changed
Jobs
Homes
Cities
Marriages
Thing ended-up in a safety deposit box for a few years. I still wear it some --- my Nice Car-show watch . . . took it to Pebble, this year
. . . but I'm probably gonna give it away to My Boy, for his next birthday. He'll be 40 --- and I'm sure his Mom 'll be happier to see it on his wrist, 'stead thinking about it on mine

Something is special about Rolex as a brand, they're very savvy about image projection and product protection. And models like your Submariner haven't been altered not just because the company is conservative regarding design, but they recognize NOT chasing trends keeps them on top. Just about the entire line are/were instant classics and will always be. There's been a recent fashion for customized Rolex watches and nearly every model is subjected, but the company takes a dim view of the practice and will void warrantees on them.
Since there are so many that have posted exceptional examples from Omega, I'll add one more. This is a chunky cushion Seamaster from the early '70s, sometimes (erroneously) called a Jedi Seamaster. Omega made several variations on this movement and case styles but real Jedi's are octagonal... Darth Vader examples are black ceramic; Anakin Skywalkers are finished in brushed steel. An Omega collector came up with the nicknames in the early 2000s.
This is another watch I've owned a long time, close to 30 years. Still has the original strap. It's big and showy and weighs a ton, but when I got it, it was the perfect bit of flash under a Hugo Boss suit sleeve.

Rich wins! Coolest thing on this thread, the western/space ship motif band is pure '50s... but how did you not destroy the cardboard rocket?!?

My wife purchased this "poor man's" Heuer Carrera for me several years ago. It was made for Sears in the 1960's and was marketed as the Tradition. No Sears labeling except for the inside. 73323 movement with the panda face. Sorry for the sideways image.

This watch is back. The most very basic watch Rolex made back in '71. Very reliable and accurate to a few seconds per day. Not terribly special if it weren't for the connection to my father.
