    Tie Rods

    Hello Tom

Funny you should post this question. I am going thru this exact job right NOW on my 1970 911 T Targa. Yes, the turbo tie-rods screw right into your steering rack. You should receive new boots with your Turbo Tie-rod kit. But like all jobs early 911 you have to decide how original you want it to be. The turbo tie-rod kit I purchased came with a standard pinch-type lock not to secure the tie-rod into the strut. The original nut was a castle nut with a split pin. I attached a picture that shows at top the original tie rod from 1970, in the middle is the tie-rod end with the modern lock nut, at the bottom is a new tie-rod end that uses a castle nut ( P/N 930 347 322 00 ). Of course I will end up painting the bottom tie-rod end black before installation. When I worked on these cars 30 years ago it used to be easier....

Don't forget a bump kit if you change the ride height.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the "improvement" on the upgrade to turbo tie rod ends.? I have a stock 71 T that I may put these on, but curious to what kind of improvement I should see. Thx again

Many threads on this, the big gain is not so much the tie rod end as shown above but the end at the steering rack, you get a more solid spherical joint there and get rid of a rubber block like mount that has more play even as new. you can look at that part without having to remove the wheel. A great improvement on all 901 / 902 cars including SWB, just have to be aware of the length threaded into the adjuster sleeve, or use the special longer version from Elephant.

    Regards
