I'm sure David can add more or the marque expert who did the verification

    David hope you dont mind...

"0705" (914/39), came to California with an interesting history. After being a factory test car and Targa Florio practice car, it was brought over to the USA by Jo Hoppen in 1971 to be raced by Peter Gregg for Brumos at Sebring and in the subsequent championship. It eventually wound up on a used-car lot in Sunnyvale California with a 911T motor and was autocrossed until about 1979, when it was put away in a garage and forgotten until the owner passed away. His heirs contacted one of my friends as a marque expert to appraise "Dad's old car" because they had been told by their dad that it had a connection to "some guy in racing called Peter Gregg." The body tag (and other unique details) proved the provenance, and the heirs happily accepted a fair price for their dad's car.

Let me add a little more interesting detail to the "thumbnail" history that I PM'd to Michel:

The marque expert who identified and purchased this car was at Freisinger Motorsport in Karlsruhe Germany last year and mentioned that he was looking for a twin-plug motor from 1970-ish to put into 0705. Manfred Freisinger told my friend that his father, Manfred Sr., had put just such an engine into storage 44 years ago, and Freddy thought that it might still be in the warehouse. They looked, and sure enough, on a pallet was a twin-plug motor along with all the correct 914-6 GT tin.

A deal was done and the engine will be reunited with the car, which still has its twin-plug wiring. I say reunited, because Jurgen Barth and factory records have confirmed that this very motor had been installed in 0705 during testing and development back in 1970. It's a small world!

Not stamped. Body tag on prototypes is leaded onto the tub next to left upper door hinge. Confirmed by Barth.
