    San Diego Comission

'. . . 1992 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 is said to be one of the first 15 examples modified by Singer Vehicle Design and was completed in March 2014, after which it remained with a single owner before being acquired by the current owner in 2021. Finished in blue over a custom red leather interior, the “San Diego Commission” is powered by a Cosworth-developed 3.8-liter flat-six that drives the rear wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual transaxle with a limited-slip differential. Additional features include carbon-fiber body panels, individual throttle bodies, Cosworth Pectel engine management, Öhlins adjustable shock absorbers, Brembo cross-drilled and ventilated disc brakes, staggered-width 17” Fuchs-style forged aluminum wheels, Recaro sport seats, a leather-trimmed roll bar, air conditioning, power windows, and a Parrot Asteroid tablet. This Singer-modified 964 is now offered on dealer consignment with a Singer build sheet, service records, and a clean Indiana title in the name of the current owner’s company.

Founded by former Catherine Wheel frontman Rob Dickinson in 2009, Los Angeles-based Singer Vehicle Design specializes in performance-based customizations of 964-series 911s. Each car is stripped to its steel unibody, which receives welding reinforcements before being fitted with carbon-fiber panels including the fenders, bumpers, hood, and rear decklid. Non-sunroof coupes such as this example are also fitted with a carbon-fiber roof. The front spoiler, lower rear valance, and lower rocker panels are composed of black textured urethane.

. . . finished in blue with pale blue side stripes and red “Porsche” lettering on the sides and decklid. A paint correction was performed in 2021, at which time portions of the front spoiler were repainted. Areas of pitting are noted on the nose and leading surfaces of the front fenders. Exterior details include an external fuel filler cap centered in the hood, an external oil filler cap on the right-rear quarter panel, and a gold-color Singer badge atop red “reimagined” lettering. Additional Singer touches include a retractable rear spoiler with a tinted acrylic screen beneath the grille, bi-xenon headlights, polycarbonate front lenses, bullet-style side mirrors, and nickel-plated brightwork, the latter of which was polished in 2021.

Fuchs-style 17″ forged aluminum wheels feature a matte nickel finish and are secured via open lug nuts. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires measuring 225/45 up front and 265/40 at the rear were mounted in 2021. The Brembo brake system was derived from the Porsche 993 Turbo and incorporates drilled and ventilated rotors acted upon by red four-piston calipers with white Porsche lettering. The brake fluid was flushed in 2021.

. . . cabin is trimmed in red leather with leather-weave inserts and brass ventilation grommets on the four-way adjustable Recaro front sport seats and rear seats, while matching woven leather covers the door panels, rear side panels, and rear bulkhead. Options include a padded roll bar trimmed in red leather with white stitching, a harness bar behind the rear seatbacks, red square-weave floor mats, drilled footboards and pedals, and red quilted leather front compartment trim with white stitching. Amenities include air conditioning, a Becker radio with iPod connectivity, and a Parrot Asteroid tablet mounted under the dash. Work performed in 2021 involved repairing the passenger seat, driver’s-seat leather, and tablet mounting hinge.

The MOMO Prototipo steering wheel is trimmed in black leather and sits ahead of replacement VDO instrumentation including an 11k-rpm tachometer with a red dial face, a 190-mph speedometer, and auxiliary gauges. The six-digit odometer shows less than 10k miles, approximately 4,500 of which have been added under current ownership.

The naturally aspirated air-cooled flat-six was developed by Cosworth and built by Jae Lee of Mirage International of San Diego, California, to a displacement of 3.8 liters with a Singer-rated output of 360 horsepower. Features include Cosworth Pectel engine management with MoTec power distribution, individual throttle bodies, a ceramic-coated intake plenum, stainless-steel exhaust headers, and a fuel cell. Service in 2021 included repairing various oil and fluid leaks, cleaning the intake and filter, tuning the ECU, replacing the catalysts, and cleaning and ceramic coating the exhaust system. An oil change was performed in 2023.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a close-ratio Getrag G50 six-speed manual transaxle equipped with a limited-slip differential, and the transmission fluid was changed in 2021. The suspension features Öhlins adjustable dampers at all four corners. Power-assisted steering is via rack and pinion, and service in 2021 involved adjusting the rack, replacing the bellow and tie rod boots, and changing the power steering fluid
