Reference: 380MM steering wheels - THE TRUTH
There is much confusion, deception, out and out lies, myths and misinformation about 380MM steering wheels.
I will attempt to solve some of them.
First of all, not all 380mm wheels are alike and most of them are not appropriate for a 911 or 912 but they will fit, sort of.
The only true "380mm Carrera RS" wheels come from 70 and 71 914s. 914/4s and 914/6s use the same wheel in 70 and 71. 70 and 71 914/4s have a bunch of plastic on the back of the wheel to adapt it to the 914/4 steering column and turn signal switch. 914/6s use the same parts as a 911 on the back of the wheel.
The first picture is the back side of a 72 or later 914/4 steering wheel.
The next picture is the back side of a 70/71 914 steering wheel with the plastic junk removed.
The next picture is of a 72 or later 914 steering wheel with the plastic removed.
Do you notice any differences?
They are significant!
The splines are the same and both will fit on a 911 steering shaft. The later 914 wheel could possibly suffer if the wheel nut gets over tightened, though. Not a problem with the early 914 wheel.

So I think based on the thread ...
...this would be a 914-6 or RS wheel. Can you guys confirm for me? Excellent leather, horn button etc. I don't want to post it till I can verify it is what it is. Also hard to dictate a price as there are a lot of wannabe wheels claiming to be what they are not, at elevated prices.
Jim, weigh in, but be kind.

To be an RSR wheel or not to be that is the question ?

Judging by the popularity of the thread i thought these photos I have of a 911 wheel should prove interesting.

There are at least three clues as to whether it is genuine or not
380mm wheels with date stamps 3/73
Perhaps I could ask you for your opinion on the latest post on this fascinating subject Jim.
A 380mm wheel date stamped 3/73.

Porsche 911 ST/GT or 914-6GT Wheel
Since this is a sticky I thought I would add pictures of my 914.347.803.10 thick grip factory racing wheel. It is dated 4/70 so would not be an RSR wheel too early for that but for sure it was a racing department wheel for either a 911 ST/GT or 914-6 GT, could also be ordered by customers without a race car. Still has its original 3 5/8" leather wrap on it and has cross stitching throughout no baseball stitching at the spokes. Also note there is no padding on the spokes and very minimal leather material on the step down to the metal spokes.
