Pairing # location:
Hi,
Thank you for this very useful thread.
I am new on the forum.
I have a 1969 2.0e Targa for which I am puzzled by the engine type versus year and engine/transmission details.
Détails of my car are:
VIN 119210618
Engine 6291596
Type 901/08 N° 22458
Reference on the fan: 901 106 101 5R
Registered 05/1969
The engine type according to your database would point to a 1968 911s with sportomatic. It does not appear consistent with the other references.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.
Phil
Phil, your engine and VIN seem to be matching, so the chances are it is the original engine. The engine type # should be 901/09 not 08; these are not always stamped clearly, but a photo would help determine if a stamping error was made. 901/08 was a 1968 only type #, and this is clearly a 1969 engine. I would also be very interested in a photo of the paint badge. It would be useful to introduce your car and yourself in a thread of your own. Also say hello on the members from France thread.
Thank you for the quick answer. I will make an introduction thread indeed.
Attached: photos (sorry for quality) of the engine type, engine number (looks like a 2 was put over a 1) and paint badge. Car was initially tangerine repainted to slate grey.

That does look a bit odd. Perhaps the person doing the stamping was having a bad day. If you could get a better photo of the type #, that would help.
Yes, the pairing # would be a bonus, but an important one that aids my research.
My car is a 1968 911S here are pictures of the engine #'s to ad to your excellent records, thanks for your work.
