Hi Haul,
No card board in front of the gauges.
Do you have any photos of this?

Front hood with Salzgitter stamping.
There is no body number stamped on the front hood from the 300090 but we do find the presence of the Salzgitter steel pressing plant markings.
Attachment 502101
Logically, the 64 must be the year, the 9 must be the month. 266 must be the day number of the year.
This would indicate the 266th day of 1964, ie Tuesday, 22nd September, 1964.

Original body elements: the engine lid.
Hi all,
25 years ago, when I bought the 300090, the engine lid had the black anodized aluminum letters P O R S C H E and the model designation 911.
I replaced them with the original "two piece PORSCHE" script.
I also added the angled model designation.
I learned later, in B. Johnson's book, that in 1964 the engine lid did not have the model designation.

This is the matching lid to the car:

The Salzgitter stamping indicates that the steel sheet of the engine lid was manufactured one day after (267 vs 266) that of the front hood.
ie Wednesday, September 23, 1964.

Need help for the paint code plate that is in poor condition.
Hi experts,
It's clear that the plate is in too bad condition to be reinstalled on the car:
Attachment 502545
Do you know if the Porsche factory could supply a new plate with the punched numbers?
Could you advise a company that provides plates with punched numbers using the same font that was used by the factory in 1964?
Thanks again for your help.

Questions about gauges restoration and speedometer reset knob
Hi all,
Here are the 5 gauges of 300090.
They are all dated October 1964 except the speedometer which is dated November 1964.

I do not know if it was done at the factory but the reference written by hand on the speedometer is the correct one:

Restore the gauges?
in France we have a very good specialist who restores, repairs and adjusts the VDO instruments.
I think entrust the five gauges to him.
In order to clean, check and repair the interior, the specialist must of course remove the existing trim rings and replace them with new ones.
Do you think this could harm the authenticity?
We have another question about the speedometer reset knob.
During the 1964 production the reset knob was in Bakelite:
Attachment 502908
As the pictures show, the speedometer of 300090 which is from 1964 has the knob from 1965.
• Does anyone know when exactly Porsche changed the knob?
• The knob may have been replaced by a previous owner?
Anyway, if anyone has this Bakelite reset knob for sale please contact me.
Thanks,
Philippe

Original gearbox of 300090
Hi all,
As you know we are lucky to have the original 300090 gearbox.
While scanning the photos, I found a date on the gearbox.
Attachment 503134
I guess 30 is the number of the week of the year.
This would mean that the gearbox was manufactured between July 20 and 26, 1964.
Just a month before the start of the production.

How to recognize a 1964 / early 1965 front seat?
Hello experts,
The 300090 needs a pair of front seats.
These seats must therefore have been manufactured between 1964 and the beginning of 1965.
Besides the six folds (which may have been replaced), could you please tell us other special features that will allow us to determine if a front seat is correct or not for a 1964 911?
Thanks,
Philippe

It seems casting was changed shortly after to accommodate a build plate. The question I have, maybe Franz knows, is the date on the plated racks in month/year or week/year?
In any case, build #427 seems to be early 64 build. Looks like a very early rack for sure!
It's clear to me now.
Thanks Jsottile,
Philippe

Front and rear axles paint and finish
Hi experts,
We are about to restore the front and rear axles, suspensions, brakes, etc of the #90.
We need your knowledge in order to avoid mistakes:
- What was the type of paint / finish used in 1964?
- Where could we source the correct screws, nuts, washers?
Thanks for your help

Rear brake calipers ATE Dunlop
Hello all,
I am looking for rear brake calipers for the 300090.
901 1964 models had "ATE + Dunlop" rear brake calipers.
Please experts what do you think about these brake calipers for sale on ebay?
Are they correct for the 300090?

356c rear brake calipers for 911 1964
Hello,
I finaly found this pair of rear brake calipers.
Thanks to PMB Performance because their white paper about the 356c brake calipers helped me identify the right model:
>>>
... some of the first 901 (911) cars came equipped with 356 calipers.
356 calipers will have a Dunlop license marking by the fluid inlet.
...
They will have a 3501 marking cast into one ½ and a 3502 marking cast into the other.
<<<
Read more: https://www.pmbperformance.com/artic...173/189326.htm
The 3501 and 3502 markings are present:

Still looking for a pair of front brake calipers:
PMB Performance white paper:
>>>
They will have a 4801 marking cast into one ½ and a 4802 marking cast into the other.
Read more: https://www.pmbperformance.com/artic...173/189325.htm
<<<
Question: Any idea of the exact model / date of this 356c front calipers?
There are no markings 4801 nor 4802.
Those calipers have a 4810 marking only on one side. No marking on the other side.

300061 vs 300090 Steering Rack
Thanks Allen!
The steering rack of the 300061 seems to confirm that the steering rack of the 300090 is original.
According to the Jsottile’s post #131:
- Same cast number 78 20 501 112 (although not very readable on the pictures)
- Same part number 78 20 900 112
- The build number of the 300090: 427 comes after the build number of the 300061: 300.
The 300061's steering rack appears to have never been cleaned nor stripped.
I'm curious whether it was originally painted (what color) or not...

Wanted: Tail Light French Version
Hi all,
I am looking for the French version of tail lights for the 300090.
I have the right side.
I'm looking for the left side but I'm ok to buy a pair. NOS Welcome!
The French version has a yellow lens for the back-up light.

Some precisions about the French version and one note about the PET.
References found in the PET for the Europe version.
901 631 403 00 / 90163140300 rear light left for Europe not for (F)
901 631 404 00 / 90163140400 rear light right for Europe not for (F)
Note the "not for (F)" => not for France
Attachment 538001
References found in the PET for the French version.
Note the "YELLOW left/right for (F)" => YELLOW left/right for France
901 631 403 00 / 90163140300 rear light YELLOW left for (F)
901 631 404 02 / 90163140402 rear light YELLOW right for (F)
Attachment 538002
It looks like there is an error in the PET.
Indeed 901 631 403 00 had to be 901 631 403 02 as shown in the picture of a left side below.
The original right side I have: 901 631 404 02

Left side (picture found on the Net): 901 631 403 02 and not 901 631 403 00

Porsche dealer Perpignan, France
The 300090 was delivered in France to the Porsche dealer in Perpignan in December 1964.
I'm trying to contact the grandson of the person who was the boss of the dealership in 1964.
Maybe he has pictures of the car on the day he arrived or in the showroom.
Philippe
