Hi guys,
after a few of you already wrote me to post some information on my car, here you go with the complete story.
Maybe also someone of you can help me to find out a bit more about the history of the car.
So here you go:
We bought the car from VictoryMotorCars , Houston in April 2007.
The car came from Marietta , GA. The License plate was TONLY04. I also have the name of the owner, but won't post it here!

We looked at the car and bought it in Houston on 04/20/2007.
The car was not excellent, but ok for the first!! Also the original engine was rebuild and upgraded to 2.4!
Negative was that they repainted the car to a very poor standard!

After we bought the car end of April, we were ready to collect it in Bremerhaven on 7/10/2007.
We drove it home to Munich with a little stop over in the Netherlands.
Back in Germany we began to disassemble the car on 07/17/07.
And believe me this was a very unpleasant work, because the car was much more worse than we thought!!

For sure we also removed the complete wiring harness. Because this is the only way to do it 100%!!
Please also note the yellow 12 wich is written with crayon.
Itīs also on the dash, after I spoke with a old mechanic from Porsche he told me that this meant it is the 12th car, they built 1971!

Until this point we made everything ourselves.

On 08/25/2007 we had the shell ready to put on a roller, for an easier transport.
This was the day,the car went to one of the best bodyshops here in this area. There is only one man ( from italy ) who worked for Porsche until the 80īs.
Heīs the owner and did all the work on his own!
On 09/05/2007 he started working on the car!!
That was everything but not funny!!
every panel, body parts were original. never befor they worked on it or removed something.
Befor I forget it, the car also had a accident on the rear passenger side!! But I donīt exactly know what happened to the car.
But it looks like a cheap American repair job.

So letīs continue.
Today we start on 09/28/2007!!
as you can see, everything began at the front and then he went to the rockers and the back of the car.
Antoher thing we changed, were the original heating tubes, which were orginally in the rockers. We replaced them with stainless steel tube (left and right). Because the original ones wonīt survive the following steps!
We decided to do this, because later we planed to put the car in a soaking bath to remove every rust, dirt, older paint and primer. The temperatur is around 100°Celsius (242° F)!!
After this we decided to weld on the new fenders, e.t.c. and then have the car c ataphoretic painted. And there the temperatures will go up to 300°Celsius (726°F)!!
............
So now hereīs another interesting part of the restoration, the soaking bath!!
The car got the bath on 12/04/2007!!
As you can see on the pictures, the parts already got a little flight corrosion 2 hours after the parts came out of the bath.
They also made a mistake with the temperatur. So there were some big air bubbles, under the roof.
Normally the car now should go into a vacuum room. But we have to weld on the
new fenders and rear quarters.
So we decided to bring the car back to our bodyshop finish the body work, and put the car in a soaking bath, again.
Another result of the too low temperature is, that there is still some undercoating on the car. So we removed everything by hand.
Date of the situation: 12/12/2007
On 12/22/2007!
Nearly all parts have been mounted and welded.
More of it!!
Also we decided to go with a new front floor panel.
Also we decided to install a few periode race parts.
For example, as you can see on the first picture, I marked it with a red arrow!! This are NOS Genuine Porsche RSR Strut pieces!!
The complete bodywork was finished 01/30/2008, also date of the pictures.
From this point on, we waited to get a date for the second soaking bath and the cataphoretic painting. Itīs not easy to get a matching date. So it took a lot of time.
Another reason why everything took so long from now on was the coordination, because itīs not legal to do these metods of painting in Germany because of the chemical products they use!
On 06/16/2008 we got the car back from both works.
As you can see it took us nearly 5 month to get it finished.
We had the car painted, for sure in original 2 Stage Glasurit paint, from a good friend who has one of the most advanced paint shops in Germany.
He finished his work on 08/14/2008!

Iīm back!
So we got the car back from the paint shop 08/20/2008!!
The next set is from 25th August. After my dad began to put it together.....
a beautiful restoration, and on a T at that!
it looks like our european brothers (and john a.) are ahead of us in recognizing value.
i have seen the future and it includes T's,E's and S's.

The following pictures were taken on 11/11/2008 when the car moved from our garage to the workshop of a friend of us.
On 11/21/2008 we had the wiring back in the car, and all gauges, light, ... worked!
Also a few areas were painted black.
We didnīt paint the trunk, engine compartment, underside black, because to us, this looks much better.

Ok, next set was taken on 11/29/2008 after we got the dash and knee pads back from our saddler.
He made the dash and knee pad in black Mercedes Benz leather and madw twin stitches like Ferrari has it.
Also we change the interior color from tan to black. We will use genuine NOS -73 RS Lightweight carpets.
Also taillights and side windows were installed.
Here a few shots of the engine, befor it went to a company which ice blasted it.
After we thought a lot about which exhaust we want to attach to the engine.
We also a have a genuine Rally Muffler with the 3 outīs that we will sell.
We decided to have the best guy in Germany (fuchs-esd.com) to build one for us. It should look like the prototyps had it. Attached is the image from Barbarossa! And our exhaust.
So this is a special exhaust out of stainless steel and we will use it with new SSI exchangers.
So here you will go with some parts that were refinished.
- Rear axles.
- custom made door arresters, originals no longer available
- brake booster
- trans

Ok so let me upload some pictures from today 1/28/2010!! We werenītable to work on the car for a while because we hadto do a lot in our jobs.
So a few details: On the inner fenders we used plates, made out of very light and strong kind of plastic. THis looks better than the protection structural paint.
Also we got a custom made oil tank, styled like the ones from the original 911 STīs but with one liter more oil capacity.
The front bumper has also been fitted 100%!!
First pic shows the new bracket for the front bumber.
Second the plastic plate.
Third is the new oil tank. Will post another picture of it tomorrow, were you can see it laid on the floor.

Hi Tom, yes the oil tank is a custom made one completely out of stainless steel and has 1 liter more oil capacity.
The original form is from a 911 ST!
This is the reason why it hangs out a bit under the rear bumper. But we think this is such a nice piece, why should we hide it away?

Now the car is back on itīs wheels. And it rolls.
All parts (the brakes, the suspension parts are powdercoated not painted). The Fuchs are the originals, until now we didnīt refresh them because we are still thinking about if we change them to larger ones (7x15). But I normally would decide to keep them.
Tom, yes we are doing a cover for the left rear bumper. Simultaneously we are preparing another centre part for the exhaust openings.
Also we changed the rear spring plates which were black powdercoated on the last set of pictures to original ones which are now originally anoized.

yes Iīm back with some bad news. The reason why I didnīt post any news, was the Retro Classic in Stuttgart,we had a lot of work with it.
But letīs go to the car!
We we fixed the engine to have a look if everything fits well. But the left SSI exchanger is 0,79inch longer than it should be, so the exhaust doesnīt exactly fit in.
Now we will bring the car as it is now to Mr. Fuchs (fuchs-esd.de), who made the exhaust. He will rework the SSI.
But all other things are very very good.
For me the look of the mounted exhaust is really amazing!!!
I like this project very well!!! And my opinion is that there are not many cars that are made like this.

Hey guys,
Iīm back with a lot of work done on the car....
Now the car has itīs SSi`s fitted 100% correct. Mr. Fuchs did a wonderful job again....
Last week we also received the original `73 lightweight carpet. We will put it in within the next 10 days.
We also ordered a new rear screen in thin glas. This is the only reason why the car has no rear screen at the moment. We should receive it in the next 3 days.
Also you you will now see on the pictures the new rear center part with the two openings. We will start the motor this saturday the first time ;-)
Oh yes on the fog light covers thereīs actually no rubber installed as it was not available until last thursday.
Please tell me what you think about the car....

In order to fully appreciate what Dino has accomplished its important to note that this has been a 3 year project. I strongly recommend that folks look at the pictures taken in '07 to appreciate the previous condition of the car. Tracking the progress through this thread has been fantastic. I will add that Dino has placed his energy into revitalizing a T badged car. I suspect that it would be exceedingly unlikely that folks in US would put this much energy into a T without making it into a full blown R Gruppe car. The fact that he took on the project as well as the final outcome is in my humble opinion nothing short of remarkable.

It makes my fingers hurt to type this but..... The only thing that keeps this awesome car from being perfect it there needs to be something done about the cutout where the original exhaust exited the bumper. I would do anything for my car to have only one petty little issue like that, I am truly at awe of your work and this gorgeous specimen of a truly amazing acomplishment. WOW is all I can think of !

first of all thanks for all the kind words about my car.
So I had to work a lot in the last weeks so I wasnīt able to write more about it and post the news but I will do it now.
The cars is back on the road ;-) and itīs amazing!!!!
I will post the pictures in the correct order from the last weeks....
So now we have the car back at our house and will finish the work. That means... we are going to put in the black carpets and for sure change the tan seats against the black 906 ones.... rest are only a few little things....
So this is the actual situation!!!

Car was in storage for over 20 years. All original paint and interior. No accident or anything like this. Now we are going to restore it to 110% :-)
