. . . = why I never bought a Shelby
Even Back-in-the-Day --- 'Ol Shel' would sell you every single piece that it took to roll-yer-own. All ya needed was a Fastback + Hi-Po 289 ('K' code) and a set o' 6-cyl front fenders and there ya have it . . .
. . . minus the CS tags . . .
. . . which I discovered --- to my ever-lasting relief . . . during my evaluation of a potential purchase . . .
. . . for about the same Asking as this 'A' code replicloneration --- minus the AC + goof-ball center console . . .
. . . 30 years ago
Forty-five Grand 's a biiiiiiit stiff/wishful . . . but it sure looks fun
Still can't stand those wheels, though

. . . the Deal o' the Event . . .
. . . maybe the Year
'70 Chevelle, SS 454, LS6, Turbo 400, black-on-black, numbers matching
No AC
No radio
Manual winders
And all OG --- right down to the plate + frame
With headers + re-jet . . . ~600 hp
And --- even at 4000 lbs . . . sub-12 1/4s . . .
. . . K --- maybe not on 14s . . . w/ Polyglass
. . . even w/ The Kids in the back seat. Momma . . . . uuuuuuh --- not-so-much
C'mon, Papa, c'mon! Lay 'nother patch, puh-LEEEEEEEEASE?

Tidy Little Beastie, eh?
I try not to look at this --- or any . . . 356 too closely, any-more. My 1st Porsche was a 356 and I spent almost 2 years looking for it --- back in the late-'80s . . . and believe me when I say that I saw WAY-more of my fair share of bondo-, clip-, + franken-wagens . . . even Back Then. Pre-As, like this, were an especially ravaged specie. But --- if I had to do it over again? . . . prolly try to get a Pre-A for myself. Really strange/neat/special little cars
So/anyway --- seeing one here . . . out on the asphalt, in Pomona? . . . well . . .
. . . shivered some timbers
Looks well-enough put-together. Aside from the inevitable chroming/polishing/powder-coating/personalization --- Conda filter can, really? . . . there appears to an attempt at upholstering the engine compartment, and -- Lo + behold . . . the nifty-/early-style distributor
I didn't dare look underneath, but --- as long as it actually drove here on its own . . . I'll tip my hat

. . . Ho --- Ly ---- To ---- LEEE --- do
Looks mostly OG, too . . . . . which is purdy-frickin'-amazing considering all the Kennedy assassinations/Viet Nam Wars/hem-lines/Moon landings/Watergates/Punk Rock/Reganomics/Evil Empire collapses/Iraq Wars I +II/multiple Economic- + Political-cycles this thing's seen . . .
. . . to end-up, here
Intact
!
Chevy prolly sold a TON more of these than Porsche --- and/yet? . . .
. . . where are these now?
And why do I have this sudden urge . . .
. . . to go ------------ to a drive-in?

Fuelie BelAir . . .
. . . the original Super Chevy
I've been told that there's no way to verify whether any '57 Chevy was originally equipped this way, but . . .
. . . this particular Shoe-box was sold just last year . . . after spending 40 years in a museum
Never seen one o' these in the metal . . .

Some of the workmanship on display 's pretty amazing. And the creativity . . .
. . . even if some o' these vehicles aren't exactly my bucket o' kimchi
And just check out that pin-striping . . .

Now --- THAT's what I call low . . .
Not exactly a 'date car,' is it?
I'd like to see a Girlie (in a skirt = my preference) maneuver her way in/outta there
On 2nd thought --- this'd be GREAT date car!
So-uuuh --- what's with the pedals?

At first glance, this Little Guy seems sweet enough . . .
. . . then I took note of the motor-to-tire ratio . . .
. . . and the body-to-motor ratio
Didja check-out the tire-burns on the edge of the bed? Good thing we're havin' a drought, 'cause . . . this thing + rain = ay-yay-yaaay
Tidy-enough workmanship, I suppose. My question w/ Something Like This is always gonna be . . .
. . . So ----- what happens when something goes boing?
Or blam?
Or Ka-boom?
Alarm, huh? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiice . . .

11k original miles ---- and? . . .
. . . all-original Everything Else
Nothing speaks to me like a device like this, transported here/today from another time + place . . . showing me about how wonderful + elemental a machine can be. Love these finishes. And all the machinery is out there where I can see it. If something breaks, then I can prolly figure out how to fix it . . . + prolly by myself. Looks comfortable --- inviting even. And? . . . the top comes down. Not the fastest thing maybe, but --- then/again . . .
. . . it's 90 years old
I'll be looking at these photos a LOOOOONG time
Why I go to car shows . . .
