All cars and drivers have arrived home safely.
The last stretch of road being the most difficult.
Torrential rain made the last 100 miles or so miserable for this driver. I'm thinking you should earn double the miles driving an old car in the rain through NE traffic that was brutal. The stress alone almost killed me. The worst part of the trip for sure. Fortunately it happened the last 100 miles of the trip.
In the end we traveled approximately 3600 to 3800 miles once you add in our first stop to Pismo and Mike D's longer ride back too NY.
A few quuestions that may be out there?
1) Any issues with the cars? Fortunately we completed this trip with ZERO issues or down time. Considering we where driving 40-45 year old cars it would be foolish not to expect an issue here or there but in reality the cars performed flawlessly...knock on wood!
IMO, a testament to the vintage air cooled 911 breed and the owners being dilegent in maintaining and prepping their cars before for the trip....or maybe we where just lucky ;)
2) What route was better? East to West or West to East?
Tough call as both trips had different agendas but if I had to pick it would be our E to W.
Seeing Mount Rushmore and driving the badlands was epic but our first trip was loaded with more driving roads which gives it the edge for me.
3) What would you do differently? Allocate more time! Missing Treffen was a huge disappointment for all three of us and having more time to drive more twistys would have been fun.
4) Would you do it again? Absolutely! For me its all about driving these pigs with good friends. Once we rest I'm sure Dr,Mike and I will start talking about road trip #3

Pasta man? Time is fleeting so pull the trigger already and get back in the game.
Hopefully Mike and or Dave will chime in with some additional thoughts or observations...otherwise I think my work is done here.

Also glad to hear everybody's cars worked well. Crappy weather + traffic is nerve-wracking enough without listening for noises, watching gauges. Takes away from seeing the sights

I was reading through this thread and reminiscing about the great times we had on this trip, and yearning for the next one, when I realized it was only 2 days ago that we arrived home. A great road trip, with great friends truly makes time stand still. Having a great excuse to disconnect from the modern world and drive an old 911 across the country has to qualify as some form of meditation.
I also realized that I contributed nothing to this half of the thread yet.
