Rear 1/4 window trim alignment

Can anyone please explain why this misalignment occurs? I have a 68 and having the same issues. The rear quarters have been replaced during the cars lifetime and everything else aligns perfectly.
I’ve searched the forum but can’t find anything.

Any solutions? This isn’t good for my OCD😆

I was working on a car that had this. It had terrible repairs.
I had to redrill holes in the door, that were closer to the roll up window, for those clips to fit in.
I also had to pull the 1/4 window trim out too. With re-drilling those too.

That stuff looks bad to me also.

The repairs have been completed by a reputable restorer. I may have to customize the rear trim.

i think there are two kinds of q window piece
the early ones had pegs and were attached from under with speed nuts
the later were screwed onto the q panel
I have a faulty memory .... but i think they were wider..... maybe

Correct, SWB trim upto 67 had the pins. 68 used the bright anodized aluminium trim same through to 73.

Peter I saw your car the other day.

I personally think it might be the shape of the panel and not the fitment, the ledge that the trim sits on looks very wide to me, hence why the trim doesn't sit where it should I was waiting until
I was next to my resto 73 to have a good look at it to compare to your car.

Hopefully I can do that next week and report back.

It would help a little if the door would shut further in.

I would’ve thought that the aluminum trim is governed by the pinch weld.

The pinch weld does dictate a little. But you have a little room to bend the aluminum.

In the photo there is a pretty big gap on the door top trim, and you can carefully grind the trim to fit better.

I would rather have stuff look right, even if I have to mess up
a little underneath

And it might be possible that new door top trim is a different exrtrusion, tho I have never checked.

I agree, the door looks like it could still come in a tad.
