After a years membership in this club I have finally decided to send a few pictures and a summary of my 1970 911S Targa. I'm honored to have it be a part of your fine website. |

Over the years, I have owned 6 Porsches, mostly 914's and a 924, for a short time. About 4 years ago I decided to build a 914-6 from a 2 ltr. car that I had. However, when I did the math, it was better to just BUY a 911 and be done with it. The early 911S' were legendary as "Real Essence Porsches". Short of a 73 RS, the early 911S was the closest I could get to that "Essence" feel for the money I could spend. S cars were at the time affordable and promising as far as appreciation. However, originality was paramount to it's promise. I started looking locally for an early 911S. After a few months, I found this car advertised in the local trader. A 1970 S Targa, It had 68,000 original miles on it when I found it. After checking the numbers I found this car to be one of 729 world built and one of a 125 or so that made it into the U.S.A. Previously owned my three PCA families, it had a trail a mile long. It came with a very complete set of documents and service records. Among them were included the original window sticker and bill of sale for $9898.00! The Kardex says it was ordered with sport seats, but the P.O.E. documents from Brumos P/A in Jacksonville say, "N/A at this time", too bad. It was with few exceptions, an original car. Even the paint. I have talked with all of its previous owners and they were pleased to hear that it was still alive and well and living in sunny Florida.

They told me many interesting stories about its past including stories of Parade on the west coast two times, and a "supposed" recorded speed of 155 mph by the Illinois state Police! ( Yes, they spent the night in jail). I have spoken to the mechanic who worked on it most of its life. Although he is now retired, he specifically remembers the car. He told me that I would run out of guts before "it" would run out of legs! The last person that owned it had it for 10 years and drove it 10K. He fell for what at the time was considered cool, and "updated" the rear valance, added an after market whale tail, and added a 74 S front valance / spoiler, also aftermarket. He sold the original pieces of course. I could deal with that. To date physically, I have returned it to original, as far as the deck lid, license panel, and bumperettes. The deck lid is steel and from a late model, although I have recently purchased a 1970 vintage steel lid. I am always looking for that elusive aluminum one, at a reasonable price. I left the front dam on, well because it looks good, and one of these days I will find a steel 74 dam anyway. I probably will not reinstall the front bumperettes. It just looks good! Yes, I have lowered it, and installed hydraulic tensioners, along with SS brake lines. The gearbox was rebuilt last year, and I have also added an electronic ignition system to eliminate those troublesome points. I can personally vouch for it's thrilling performance and "drivers car" feel. It does have kind of a mind of it's own and it is set on "GO". It has two speeds, Idle and Awesome!!! Right now it has a home for life, but you never know, one of these days I might just find that 73 RS in an old barn some place.... right!
